The Orient of JingYue: A Symphony of Water and Wuyue Culture

Tim Tan and Fiona Liu Craft Residential Elegance

Delving into the heart of Jingjiang's rich heritage, Tim Tan and Fiona Liu unveil The Orient of JingYue, a residential space where traditional Wuyue culture and modern design converge.

In the bustling city of Jingjiang, known for its millennia-old history, a new residential house stands as a testament to cultural reverence and contemporary elegance. The Orient of JingYue, designed by the visionary duo Tim Tan and Fiona Liu, is not merely a living space but an embodiment of art and Oriental flavor. The designers, inspired by Jingjiang's alias, the ancient city of Wuyue, have intricately woven the region's poetic and artistic elements into the fabric of this abode.

The unique properties of The Orient of JingYue lie in its harmonious blend with the water element, a nod to the traditional Chinese Wuyue culture. The design team has skillfully paid homage to the local customs while infusing the space with motifs reminiscent of the ancient canal markets and textile craftsmanship. This abstract and refined approach results in a space that dialogues with history, offering residents a modern sanctuary steeped in cultural significance.

Realizing this design required a delicate balance of classical and modern techniques. Materials such as walnut and marble are juxtaposed with bronze metal, creating an opulent yet understated aesthetic. The 182-square-meter area exudes the luxury and hidden quality of an Oriental aesthetic habitat, with a flowing, dark elegance that captivates and soothes.

The Orient of JingYue is not just visually stunning; it is a functional masterpiece. The design facilitates a seamless interaction with the water element, ensuring that every aspect of the space pays tribute to local culture while embracing the ancient commercial and textile traditions. The result is a living environment that is both historically rich and contemporarily relevant, offering an immersive experience that is both tactile and visual.

From its inception in March 2022 to its completion in September 2022, The Orient of JingYue was a journey of exploration and innovation. The design reflects a deep understanding of the spiritual aspirations of contemporary society and traditional Chinese national culture. Overcoming the challenge of merging time-honored traditions with modern design techniques, the project stands as a beacon of cultural and aesthetic integration.

As a recipient of the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, The Orient of JingYue has been recognized for its outstanding creativity and contribution to enhancing quality of life. Captured through the lens of Pianfang studio, the project immortalizes the spirit of the times within its spatial form, offering a new chapter in the narrative of Jingjiang's architectural legacy.
